Did you watch any of the March Madness games this weekend?
I’m sure you did. These were the games that determined who was coming to town for the Men’s Final Four this weekend.
As we watched the exciting and entertaining games (and boy they were nailbiters), there was an alarming trend that we picked up on. It caused us to post this on Facebook Saturday night:
I couldn’t believe it. Every reference to the Final Four by announcers included Dallas or North Texas. No mention of Arlington. By the show of “likes”, I wasn’t the only one picking up on this.
Naturally, my next step involved logging on to good ole’ Twitter. With so many people sharing their thoughts in real-time, surely it was noticed there too.
Yup! Here are a few of tweets from users that noticed Arlington wasn’t getting any love:
If I'm running the city of Arlington, I'm putting out an ad on national TV telling folks that the Final 4 is in Arlington. #moneywellspent

Final four refuse to give Arlington any love
Why does everyone on tv say road to North Texas instead of road to Arlington #feeling disrespected

What the heck is "North Texas"?

Does saying “Arlington” give announcers the cooties or something? Of course they are probably told by higher-ups to refer to the Final Four destination as “North Texas” instead of “Arlington.”
But it’s quite the head-scratcher. Why can’t Arlington get its props? We aren’t exactly a small town in the middle of nowhere. The fact that we have nearly 400,000 residents and plenty of things to do makes this a wonderful place to be. Heck, before the name change, even Globe Life Park in Arlington was Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, not Rangers Ballpark in North Texas.
Do we even have to refresh everyone’s memory regarding how Arlington residents played a substantial role bringing the Death Star to town?
Sure, the same thing happened during the promotion of Super Bowl XLV in 2011. But that doesn’t make it right.
So what do you think? Why can’t Arlington get any love from the NCAA? Let us know what you think in the comments.
